If I focus on not sinning, why do I still feel stuck?
What you stare at grows. Jesus did not come to give a better system for managing sin. He came to take sin off the throne, give you a new heart, and put the Spirit in its place.
God remembers our sins no more. The wages of sin is death; the gift is life. The law made sin known; it did not cleanse us. Jesus fulfilled the law. Sin is no longer master because we are not under law but under grace.
Jeremiah 17:9 is about the old heart. After Jesus, we are not told to distrust the new heart He put in us. We walk by the Spirit. When the focus stays on sin, people fall by doing the wrong thing or by not loving — which is the thing God is urging.
Freedom is the starting point. Love is what the Spirit produces.
